Vehicle Story

This 1969 Oldsmobile 442 W30 is finished in Topaz Metallic with a matching vinyl interior and is powered by a 400-ci V8 engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car has spent the last 16 years owned by noted Oldsmobile collector, Fred Mandrick, in Arizona. Vehicle highlights includes newly reupholstered interior, recent service including a new clutch, and available documentation. This 442 W30 is now offered with a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The exterior of the car is finished in Topaz Metallic with a parchment vinyl roof. The seller states that the car has been repainted previously, but it was refinished in the original color.  The seller indicates that there is one small rust bubble on a front fender, but it has not increased in size during their 16 years of ownership. A photograph of the factory Body by Fisher VIN tag is shown in the photo gallery.  The body retains its original chrome badging, decals, and accent trim.

Factory 14” five-spoke wheels are wrapped in 215-70-14 red-line tires on all four corners.

The interior is fitted with gold factory bucket seats, both of which were reupholstered with reproduction covers along with the rear seat and the door panels with parts from Legendary Auto Interiors.  Rubber floor mats were put in to protect the matching gold carpeting, and the door sill scuff plates are the correct "Body by Fisher" metal pieces.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and 6,000-rpm tachometer.  The five-digit odometer reads 71,773 miles, approximately less than 1,000 of which have been added over the seller’s 16-year ownership. The vehicle is equipped with AM/FM Stereophonic radio, sport steering wheel, remote control outside mirror and floor-mounted shifter with sports console.

The 400-ci V8 engine’s short block has been changed from the factory original but is correct for the vehicle and features the W30 forced air induction system. All the other engine components are original or correct as well, including the red inner fender liners that the seller believes to be an original set, not reproductions. The numbers matching M21 close ration 4-speed transmission transfers the power to heavy-duty performance axle with anti-spin rear differential. The rear end code is TM which is exclusive to the W30 with a ratio of 3.42:1. The 442 was factory rated at 350 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller states that service records are available that encompass the 16 years of ownership. The most recent service item was an oil change, and the fuel sender was replaced approximately 200 miles ago in 2014 along with the clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and throw-out bearing.

A factory-correct exhaust system can be seen underneath, additional shots of the undercarriage can be viewed in the gallery

Documentation with the car includes a copy of the original window sticker showing delivery to Jackie Cooper Oldsmobile of Yukon, Oklahoma with an original MSRP of $4,387.68

@GT500 – Beautiful W30. What type of HP is the car currently putting out, any idea? Sounds like it’s got a close ratio Muncie, which makes it even more fun to drive. Great setup. ...

It feels like a stock Olds W 30 motor with lots of torque and yes it has an M21 transmission. It pulls hard and it is a great driving car that has been in my collection for many years with limited use but is well sorted out, very reliable and a no issues car. Everything works except the clock, just serviced oil and filter, coolant and thermostat, transmission was serviced when new clutch was installed. Tires are older but the car has always stored indoors spare tire never been on the ground.
