Vehicle Story

This Euro-Spec 1986 Porsche 944 is finished in Guards Red over black leather and is powered by a turbocharged 2.5L inline-four, paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. The vehicle was originally sold in Germany and imported to California in 1987, where it has remained since. The seller purchased the car in June 2005 from a Porsche Club of America member, currently, it shows just over 110K miles, 25K of which were added by the seller. Included with this 951 are records that are said to be extensive per the seller, in addition to factory literature, brochures and a 944-workshop manual. Extra floor mats, a dash cover and a car cover are also included in the sale. Now offered with a clean CARFAX report and a clear California title, the car comes with a CA Smog Certificate valid through March 2021.

The 944 is finished in Guards Red (G1) and features a rear spoiler, integrated fog lights, an electric sunroof and pop-up headlights. An optional color-matched rear valance is outfitted, as well. The paint is said to be original per the seller with no evidence of body  or paint work.

The 17” 5-spoke Porsche wheels are fitted to 225/45 Toyo Proxes4 Plus tires on all four corners. The wheels are said to have been balanced and aligned in August 2020. Braking is handled by factory disc brakes all around.

The black leather interior is outfitted with matching door panels and carpets. Features include power windows, mirrors, power driver seat, cruise control, and factory floormats. Porsche seatbelt covers are also featured and included with the car. The seller added a Sony Sirius/XM head unit with Bluetooth capability, along with a 400W amp and upgraded 6x9 JBL rear speakers and 4x6 Boston Acoustic front speakers.

The gauge cluster sits behind the factory leather-wrapped wheel and includes the speedometer and tachometer with boost pressure indicator alongside other gauges. The odometer reads 110,028 miles.

The turbocharged 2.5L inline-four has had recent maintenance per the seller, including a new battery, new motor mounts, tires, spark plugs, and oil & fuel lines. In addition, the timing belt and water pump were replaced at 104K miles. The turbo is said to have the studs replaced at 99K miles while the air intake piping and seals, heater hoses and seals, and exhaust manifold were all replaced at that time, as well. A Racing Dynamics aftermarket front strut bar was added at some point and can be seen in the picture.

Additional undercarriage photos can be viewed in the gallery.

The clean August 2020 CARFAX report shows ownership in California since importation in 1987. No accidents or other damage is noted. Included in the sale is a set of floor mats, dash cover, leather bra, sales brochure, service records and more

Hello everyone! We are in the final few hours! It really is a great car and I don't want to let it go, but the baby's car seat doesn't fit and it's not getting the love it deserves. Really hoping it goes to a good home with someone who will appreciate it. With that said the reserve has been lowered! Good luck to all!

@FastDad – Hi Lauren, just noticed your comment about the headliner, thank you for checking it out. If you haven't noticed it before, then it can't really be much of an issue I guess. The car looks to be in amazing shape overall so it would have surprised me if it were a problem, but when bidding on a car based only pictures I have found its better to ask then to be surprised later! I really appreciate your responsiveness and thorough information to all the questions that have been asked! ...

Thanks FastDad! Definitely want to be upfront and honest, would hate for anyone to be disappointed when buying this car. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@FastDad – Lauren, thank you so much for finding the additional information on the rear reflectors! I wasn't sure what I thought of them at first, but I after doing a side by side comparison I think they are a nice touch, but good to know they are removable too. Sorry to ask another question but one more thing caught my eye in the pictures. Is the headliner in the back coming loose or is it just the lighting or something that makes it look wavy? Thanks again, great car! ...

Hi FastDad, I'll be perfectly honest and tell you that I had never noticed before. I just went out to the garage and looked at the car and you are correct and it does appear that the headliner in that one section seems to be coming loose. It doesn't look like it would be difficult to correct, though. The leather is still in excellent condition, just not tight.

@GT500 – @Tipo874, I agree, these make great track cars. Although, I think this example would definitely be a good one to keep stock, drive and enjoy...at least that's what I would do with it. Looks like excellent ownership history and an overall clean car. I also like the euro spec. ...

Super fun to drive, but it has never been raced!

Had a buddy who used to race these back in the day. Still see them on the track today. Is a fantastic track car when set up.
