This 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL500 convertible comes with a color-matched factory hardtop and a retractable black soft top, portraying a clean mechanical bill of health and having recently passed a Virginia state inspection. Power is provided by an M119 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and service records per the CARFAX show dealer-performed maintenance. Finished in Teal Blue Metallic over a perforated tan leather interior, this R129 500SL is now offered with a clean CARFAX report, service records, an air deflector, and a clear Virginia title in the seller’s name.
The R129-chassis fifth-generation SL first debuted in 1989 as a two-seat roadster with an automatically deploying rollbar. A facelift was rolled out beginning in 1994 that brought changes to the look of the front and rear lighting. This SL500 from the subsequent year is painted Teal Blue Metallic (888) and comes with a matching removable hardtop as well as the cloth power-operated retractable soft top. Condition according to the seller is unmodified, with the exterior featuring front fog lamps, color-matched lower cladding and bumpers, a power-operated antenna, and a trunk-mounted LED brake lamp.
Factory 16” five-spoke aluminum wheels are shown in good condition, and according to the CARFAX report, the tires were replaced in 2014. Handling is assisted by power steering and power disc brakes, connected to an Acceleration Skid Control (ASC) stability system.
The cabin is upholstered with tan power-operated, memory-equipped perforated leather bucket seats with matching door panels, center console, and carpeting. Surroundings are accented in burled wood trim throughout, including portions of the leather-wrapped steering wheel. Power options include windows, door locks, cruise control, illuminated vanity mirrors, and air conditioning with automatic climate control, as well as a tilting and telescoping steering wheel. Audio comes from an AM/FM head unit with a remote 6-disc changer, and a satellite radio receiver has been added. An air deflector is included which mounts behind the seats.
Instrumentation is provided by a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and surrounding gauges for fuel economy, fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The digital odometer reads 129k miles, which is a true original reading per the seller.
The M119 dual-overhead-camshaft 5.0-liter V8 carried a factory rating of 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. The CARFAX report shows service items performed in 2015 by a Mercedes-Benz dealership in New Jersey, including a four-wheel alignment, an oil change, and replacement of the shifter bushings and drag link. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.
