Vehicle Story

This 1932 Ford Highboy is a custom roadster that was built in 2000, which reportedly underwent a comprehensive rebuild in 2016. Starting with a Kilbourne fiberglass body that was painted in Torch Red, this roadster received a 350ci Chevrolet crate with Edelbrock aluminum heads and a performance camshaft along with an upgraded Holley carburetor.  There is also an AFCO Racing radiator. The cabin received a host of enhancements as well, including custom black leather upholstery from Auto Weave, a Lobeck steering wheel, a JVC stereo system, and more detailed below. This Highboy sits on a staggered set of American Racing wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich tires and is offered with a clear Illinois title assigned to the seller's dealership and titled as a 1932 Ford.

This Highboy was built around 2000 but reportedly underwent a top-to-bottom refresh in 2016 that addressed both mechanical and cosmetic items. The foundation for the build is provided by a frame that uses American Stamping rails with Deuce Factory cross members, coupled with a Kilbourne body painted Torch Red. A hood panel from Hagan is secured by spring straps and the engine bay is exposed on both sides. At the front, a Brookville grille shell frames the nose and a Lobeck tilt-out windshield allows for ventilation when needed. The body is offset by a black cloth one-piece fabric removable top, and craftsmanship is reported to be excellent throughout.

The set of 15" polished-aluminum American Racing wheels are wrapped in a staggered set of BFGoodrich tires which measure 195-section in the front and 255 in the rear. Stopping power is provided by Magnum four-wheel disc brakes, and the steering system uses a Flaming River column and box. The suspension uses a variety of different components, including a Super Bell I-beam axle with Posie spring and Pete & Jakes hairpins and shocks up front, and a Pete & Jakes four-link setup with TCI adjustable coil-overs in the rear.

The interior is fitted with a bench seat from Glide Engineering that has been upholstered in black leather from Auto Weave, along with matching door panels. A Lobeck steering wheel and a Lokar shifter are also present. A Kwik Wire harness is installed, and modern-day amenities include a USB-equipped head unit from JVC, turn signals, a horn, and a neutral safety switch. The trunk contains a battery enclosure and is finished in matching black material.

Instrumentation is provided by a series of gauges from Stewart Warner, mounted at the center dash within a brushed aluminum bezel. At the middle is a 160-mph speedometer, and surrounding it are readouts for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and voltage. The odometer reads 11,388 miles, which is said to reflect the distance covered since the completion of the initial build.

An open-cowl front end reveals the 350ci Chevrolet crate engine that was sourced from the Engine Factory. Highlights include 9.5:1 pistons, Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads, a Comp Cams camshaft with 260/268 duration, and a polished aluminum intake manifold.  There is also an upgraded Holley four-barrel carburetor.  Additional performance equipment includes an AFCO Racing radiator with a 16” electric fan, a Vintique fuel tank, and Vintique spreader bars. The 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic 350 is equipped with a transmission cooler and sends power to the Ford 9" rear end.

@misterd64 – Thanks. One question: Why are the front axle, spring and tie rods not chromed to match the rest of the front suspension? ...

Because that's what the builder wanted. Also chrome plated springs can be a bad idea as the heat involved in the plating process can change the spring's strength and rate.
