Vehicle Story

This restored 1970 Chevrolet El Camino is the result of a reported $35,000 investment and is powered by a 496ci big-block V8 engine backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering, power front disc brakes, SS emblems, manual windows, air conditioning, and CPP front and rear control arms with coilover shocks. This red El Camino with a black vinyl and gray cloth interior is available now and comes with an appraisal, restoration photos, and a clear Arizona title in the seller's name.

The exterior was refinished in red during the restoration process completed in 2006 at a reported cost of $35,000. Features include a domed hood with black Rally stripes, a chrome driver-side mirror cap, quad headlights, chrome bumpers, a blacked-out tailgate panel, a black vinyl tonneau cover, black lower body striping, wheel opening trim, and SS emblems. A complete vehicle walk-around video can be seen in the carousel to the right.

A set of 15" x 8" American Racing Hopster polished aluminum wheels are wrapped in new 225-series front and 245-series rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.

The bench seat is upholstered with black vinyl and gray cloth. Features include air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, black carpet with black and red rubber floor mats, and manual windows. Additional features include an AM/FM/cassette stereo mounted in the dashboard, a digital AM/FM/CD stereo located under the dashboard, a column-mounted automatic shifter, and a black dashboard with a black top pad. The factory tilt steering column is topped with a 1971 Chevelle steering wheel with the SS logo.

A 120-mph speedometer, 7K-rpm tachometer, clock, and gauges for the coolant temperature, fuel level, and amperage are located in a black panel ahead of the driver. An aftermarket oil pressure gauge is mounted below the dashboard. The odometer reads 5,220 miles, but the true mileage is unknown.

Power is provided by a 496ci Chevrolet big-block V8 engine backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission with a 2500-rpm stall convertor. Underhood features include a body-color firewall and hood hinges, power steering, power brakes with a CPP master cylinder and booster, air conditioning with a polished Sanden air conditioning compressor, finned aluminum valve covers, an aluminum intake with a Holley 750-cfm dual-feed carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner housing. Additional features include an Engineered Cooling Products aluminum radiator with dual electric fans, a high-flow water pump, Hedman Elite ceramic-coated headers, a 150-amp alternator, and an MSD Street Fire distributor. According to the seller, an all-new M&H full-body wiring harness has been installed. A video can be seen in the carousel to the right.

This El Camino was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. The suspension has been upgraded with CPP Stage II suspension including tubular front and rear control arms, Viking dual-adjustable shocks with coilovers and sway bars, and a 12-bolt rear axle with a 3.42 Yukon gear set with Eaton Positraction. A full-length Flowmaster 3" dual exhaust kit can be seen. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. Additional underbody photos can be seen in the carousel to the right.

A 2020 appraisal, build receipts and paperwork, and restoration photos will go with the sale and are available for viewing in the carousel.
