This 1961 Buick LeSabre is a recently serviced full-size convertible powered by a period-correct 364ci "Nailhead" V8 paired with a Turbine Drive 3-speed automatic transmission. Features include bench seats, lap belts, manual windows, and whitewall tires over wire wheels. Finished in metallic teal with a green cloth retractable top over a two-tone teal vinyl interior, this LeSabre is now offered with a custom car cover, the uninstalled original wheel covers, an owner’s manual, receipts, and a clear Louisiana title in the seller’s name.
Marketed as a full-size car beginning in model year 1959, the LeSabre was a mid-level sedan positioned between the Special and the Electra in the Buick hierarchy. Chassis underpinnings started with the General Motors B-body platform and a facelift was applied in 1960 that brought a new concave grille around Buick’s tri-shield logo. An all-new shorter and narrower generation with boxier lines debuted in 1961. This LeSabre convertible from that year was repainted metallic teal approximately 20 years ago and features brightwork around the exterior. Features include quad headlights, triple portholes, an antenna, and a dual exhaust system. The seller notes that there is some bubbling paint. In addition, the weatherstripping around the windows on the passenger side is beginning to peel away and needs to be replaced.
Wire wheels with knock-off spinner caps are set inside of whitewall tires. The seller notes that the chrome is flaking off of one of the wheels.
The six-passenger interior is furnished with two benches upholstered in two-tone teal vinyl, tied in with the lap belts, door panels, dash, and carpeting. An analog clock is mounted within a pod on top of the dashboard. Aluminum trim accents various spots around the cabin. An AM radio is installed but not functioning and the stitching is coming undone on the driver's side of the rear seat, according to the seller. They also report that the driver- and passenger-side window regulators are rusty, although the windows roll up and down without a problem.
Vehicle information is communicated through a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 55K miles, which the seller reports are an accurate amount.
The replacement, period-correct 364ci "Nailhead" V8 was serviced within the last three weeks and received new fluids and a lube job. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a column-shifted Turbine Drive 3-speed automatic transmission.
The seller notes slight surface rust on the underbody.
The sale includes the car’s uninstalled original wheel covers, a custom-fit car cover, an owner’s manual, and receipts.
