Vehicle Story

This 1958 Studebaker Transtar half-ton pickup has been with its current owner for the past eight years. It rides on a 122-inch wheelbase and comes equipped with a four-window single cab and an eight-foot bed. Power comes from a 259ci V8 engine equipped with a two-barrel carburetor and connected to a 4-speed manual gearbox that sends power through the rear wheels. Other equipment includes chromed bumpers, new tubeless tires mounted on white wheels with chrome covers, and a Twin Traction rear end. Inside, the truck features a black bench seat, manual windows, and a floor-mounted shifter. Finished in its original Apache Red and Parchment White paint, this 3E-series Studebaker truck is available now with a shop manual, a 35-page 1958 model line breakdown from Studebaker International, an indoor car cover, and a clear South Carolina title in the seller's name.

Studebaker trucks became known as the E series starting with the 1955 model year and progressed through eight iterations by the time Studebaker ended production in 1963. This particular Transtar 1/2-ton pickup is from the 3E line made from 1957 until 1958. It rides on a 122-inch wheelbase and features a single cab with four windows and an eight-foot bed. According to the seller, it has its original Apache Red and Parchment White paint. That two-tone colorway is complemented with chrome bumpers, a white three-bar grille, turn signals on the front fenders, cab-color window visors, flared rear fenders, and a Studebaker-branded tailgate between outboard-mounted taillights. Althought the truck is garage-kept, the seller notes that it does have rust on the bottom of the doors and the driver-side front fender, which can be seen in the photo gallery to the right. Other areas have a visible patina.

The truck rides on white wheels with chrome covers set inside of new tubeless tires.

Inside, the cab is furnished with a black floor covering, red door panels, a black headliner, a black bench seat, and a black dash pad above a red and white dashboard. It comes equipped with manual crank windows, a two-spoke steering wheel, a floor-mounted manual shifter, and a glove compartment.

Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. True mileage on the truck is unknown.

Under the hood is a 259ci V8 engine with a two-barrel carburetor. A 4-speed manual gearbox and a Twin Traction limited-slip rear differential send power to the road.

Additional underside photos are available in the carousel.

A shop manual, a 35-page 1958 model line breakdown from Studebaker International, and an indoor car cover are included with the sale of the truck, and a video is available for viewing below.
