1965 Ford Mustang

This 1965 Ford Mustang hardtop underwent a rotisserie restoration during the seller’s five years of ownership, receiving detailed attention to the rust-free body, Pony interior, and original 289ci V8 powertrain. Machine work was done to the motor and it received a complete overhaul, along with a two-barrel carburetor, radiator, distributor, ceramic-coated headers, and more. Power delivery is transferred to the rear by way of a rebuilt 3-speed C4 automatic transmission and a new set of Ohtsu tires on 17” custom wheels. Finished in Sunburnt Copper Pearl over a two-tone Emberglo and Parchment vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with a clear Missouri title in the seller’s name.

This Mustang was sprayed Sunburnt Copper Pearl as part of a rotisserie restoration, retaining original Ford parts wherever possible and leveraging quality replacement body panels wherever needed. The resulting finishes demonstrate optimal panel gaps, gloss, and straightness. Exterior brightwork has been replaced including the bumpers, window trim, rocker panel moldings, and badging. There is a replacement polished-outlet CJ Pony dual exhaust system at the rear.

Aluminum five-spoke 17” wheels with polished lips are mounted to new 225/45-sized Ohtsu tires. Drivetrain underpinnings have been refurbished with new U-joints, rear axle bearings and seals. The suspension has been similarly overhauled, using new upper and lower control arms, adjustable strut rods, and leaf springs. Stopping power is assisted by replacement dual-bowl master cylinder, new lines, shoes, and drums at all four corners, and the power steering system is also rebuilt.

The upgraded Pony-package interior is fitted with reupholstered Emberglo and Parchment fold-forward bucket seating, tied in with the door panels, two-tone dash, and new carpeting. The cabin is trimmed in replacement brightwork and features a replacement three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel. The dash is similarly accented in woodgrain trim over the glove compartment, and the trunk has a vinyl mat with a spare tire.

Instrumentation includes a GT-style gauge cluster with a 140-mph speedometer and accompanying gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 5,900 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The rebuilt 289ci V8 is believed original to the car as it bears a correct date code and serial sequence, residing in a detailed engine bay with a chrome-finished air cleaner and Ford Motorsport aluminum valve covers. The motor is fed by a replacement two-barrel carburetor and was machined at the time of rebuild, receiving a replacement radiator, Pertronix distributor, ceramic-coated headers, new piston rings, a new battery, and new wiring as well. An oil and filter service was carried out after break-in using Amsoil. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted, rebuilt 3-speed C4 automatic transmission with a 1967-and-newer shift pattern and a replacement driveshaft.
