Vehicle Story

This 1980 Triumph Spitfire 1500 is a British-built, two-seat roadster that comes from 40 years of current ownership and has driven 26,754 miles since new. The 1500cc inline-4 is in good running condition and sends power to the rear through a 4-speed manual transmission. This Spitfire boasts rust-free, original finishes and a two-tone black vinyl and houndstooth interior along with woodgrain dash trim. Finished in yellow with a black retractable top, this final-year Spitfire is now offered with service records, a two-piece black vinyl tonneau cover, and a clear Oregon title in the seller’s name.

The Spitfire first launched in 1962 and underwent revision of aesthetics and engineering as it evolved through the subsequent Mark I, II, III, and IV chassis designations. The final iteration of this British roadster was the 1500, debuting for the 1974 model year. Cosmetic updates were later applied in 1979, most notably replacing the previous chrome bumpers with black rubber bumpers and built-in overriders. This Spitfire from the model’s final year is dressed in yellow with black accenting stripes and Spitfire 1500 decals in the factory locations. The exterior is described as having quality finishes, fitment, and condition that aligns with its garage-kept history and low original mileage.

Silver 14” wheels with Triumph-branded center caps are mounted to older tires that are due for replacement. Enhancements to the chassis of the 1500 when compared to prior Spitfire models included longer swing axles and a wider rear track for optimized handling.

The two-seat interior is upholstered with black vinyl and houndstooth for the bucket seats, color-matched to black door panels, a center armrest, and dash. The face of the dash wears a woodgrain applique, and additional amenities include a heater, a push-button radio, and a vinyl cover for the trunk-mounted spare tire.

Instrumentation includes an 85-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature, with a warning light for oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 26,754 miles, which the seller asserts is a true reading.

The carbureted 1500cc inline-4 runs well, although the seller states that the belts and hoses are likely due for replacement due to age. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission.

The sale includes service records and a two-piece black vinyl split tonneau covers.

Whoa !! Is that a bidder error? Went from $12,300 to $20,000 right at the end. Maybe a typo?
