Vehicle Story

This 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass S received a frame-off restoration and engine overhaul in 2007. The all metal body comes finished in red with black stripes and a black vinyl roof over a white interior equipped with power steering and brakes, factory air conditioning converted to R-134a refrigerant, and aftermarket auxiliary gauges. The overhauled original Rocket 350cid V8 is equipped with Hedman headers as well as a re-manufactured Rochester carburetor and sends its power to the street via a two-speed automatic transmission. Available now, this Cutlass S comes with records and receipts, a spare 2-barrel carburetor, a pair of car covers, factory Oldsmobile manuals, a binder of historical documents, and a clear title in the seller's name.

In 2007, this Cutlass S was reportedly restored by Run Rite Classics of Houghton Lake, Michigan. The seller took ownership of the car in 2017 and made subsequent changes to it. The car comes dressed in red with dual black stripes down its hood and a black vinyl top. In the front, the pointed and slotted grille is flanked by dual round headlights separated by rectangular turn signals and sits above a chrome bumper. Strips of brightwork start at the front fenders, extend down the sides, then frame the bottom of the black top and rear windshield. Seller notes the chrome and brightwork could use polishing to remove fine scratches. The rear end features Oldsmobile rocket badges on the back fenders, a Cutlass script badge and "OLDSMOBILE" lettering on the trunk lid, and rectangular taillights above a chrome bumper. According to the seller, the P245/60R14 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires mounted on the red and silver five-spoke wheels are new and there is a matching spare.

The seller reports there is a small rock chip in the passenger side of the windshield. They have included a picture of it in the photo carousel to the right.

The cabin is furnished with black carpeting, black aftermarket floor mats embroidered with Oldsmobile rocket logos, pleated white door panels with black lower sections, and white vinyl bench seating with reportedly new aftermarket three-point seat belts in the front row. Sound deadening material is reportedly in the doors and trunk area as well as under the dashboard. Equipment includes a black three-spoke steering wheel connected to a functioning horn and power steering as well as a recently repaired factory air conditioning system that was converted to run on R-134a refrigerant, which the seller reports blows cold. They have included a photo of it hitting 69 degrees on a reportedly 90-degree day. The factory AM radio turns on, but it transmits a static noise through the original dash speakers; the seller reports the antenna was removed from the vehicle to accommodate the car cover.

The dashboard is topped with an aftermarket cover and contains new bulbs and instrumentation that includes a gear selection readout, a 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and parking brake, oil, temperature, and generator warning lights. The odometer was set to 0 during the restoration process and now reads 4,426 miles. An aftermarket digital AEM air/fuel ratio gauge with a wideband O2 sensor is concealed behind the cover to the center ashtray. White-faced aftermarket fuel pressure, water temperature, voltage, and oil pressure gauges are located on the bottom side of the dashboard.

Run Rite Classics also reportedly overhauled the original 350cid "Rocket" V8 and equipped it with a performance camshaft. According to the seller, it features a 395558-2-casting block with a high nickel content, original #5-casting cylinder heads and iron intake manifold, and a re-manufactured Rochester 2-barrel carburetor with a functioning hot air choke. It runs on unleaded gas and breathes through a set of new ceramic-coated Hedman headers, 2.5-inch dual exhaust pipes, and Flowmaster mufflers, per the seller. Power is delivered to the road through a "Jetaway" two-speed automatic transmission. Recently installed parts include a TCI Auto high-torque starter, water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, power steering pump, radiator, mechanical fuel pump with in-line fuel filter, and an aftermarket fuse expansion block and wiring connected to the white-faced aftermarket gauges in the cabin. Two videos below show the car starting up and idling.

The seller reports the frame and underbody were powder coated and that the car is equipped with factory traction bars and a 394139-casting O-type rear end with 2.78:1 gearing. Braking is performed with disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear.

Services performed include a front-end alignment, tuning, and a recent oil change. Sale includes more than $70,000 in receipts, a spare 2-barrel carburetor that can be rebuilt, a pair of car covers, factory Oldsmobile manuals, and a binder containing historical documents and reference material.
