Vehicle Story

This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS is a resto-mod convertible with hideaway headlights, custom wheels, and a dual exhaust system that receives power from a 406ci V8 backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. This Camaro was the recipient of a restoration that applied interior amenities including woodgrain trim, full gauges, a center console, and two-tone houndstooth upholstery. Finished in two-tone turquoise and black with a replacement black vinyl retractable top, this first-generation Camaro is now offered with a clear California title in the owner’s name.

The Camaro launched for the 1967 model year on the GM rear-wheel-drive F-body platform in coupe and convertible form. A few changes took place in the following years, including the removal of front vent windows and the appearance of side marker lights in 1968. This example from 1969 is described as a resto-mod that was treated to a two-tone turquoise and black repaint, complemented by a replacement power-operated black canvas retractable soft top and a trunk-mounted lip spoiler. The exterior features fog lamps, a cowl-induction hood, electric hideaway headlamps, and chrome bumpers, windshield trim, sideview mirrors, and dual exhaust tips.

Five-spoke aluminum wheels with polished lips are wrapped in staggered-width tires. Handling is assisted by power steering, and stopping power comes from power-assisted front disc brakes.

The interior contains reupholstered two-tone black and houndstooth vinyl bucket seats with matching door panels, dash, and carpeting. The cabin, which is split by a woodgrain center console, features a push-button radio and a cue-ball shift knob.

Instrumentation is comprised of square bezels with round gauges for the 120-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer, and analog clock, as well as readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 56k miles, though true chassis mileage is unknown.

The replacement 406ci V8 is dressed with chrome valve covers and air cleaner. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear end.
